GLENNON BROTHERS AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS RUBAN d’HONNEUR

 11/01/2013

The European Business Awards have today announced that Glennon Brothers have been selected as a recipient of the highly-coveted Ruban d’Honneur. Glennon Brothers, who celebrate 100 years in business in 2013, will now represent Ireland against fellow Ruban d’Honneur recipients from 27 other European countries in the European Business Awards final.

Over the past two months, an esteemed panel of judges made up of European business leaders, academics and entrepreneurs have assessed National Champions from the 28 European countries. Glennon Brothers has been chosen as one of 10 finalists in the “Import/Export” category. The companies have been chosen for their business accomplishments as well as their dynamism, and customer focus.

Adrian Tripp, CEO of the European Business Awards stated: “The video element of the 2012/2013 awards has allowed our panel of expert judges to gain a much deeper understanding of all entrants’ business strategies. This has helped the judges make clear and informed decisions about the individual companies in each award category. Glennon Brothers has really impressed the judges and deserves the very best of luck in this highly competitive final round.”

Mike Glennon, Glennon Brothers stated: “It is an honour for Glennon Brothers to be selected as a recipient of the coveted Ruban d’Honneur and a fantastic way to start our 100th year in business. To be chosen as a finalist for the European Business Awards from among the leading companies in Europe, is a remarkable achievement for our company, considering the enormous changes we have gone through, following the collapse of the Irish construction sector. Once again, I would like to thank all of those who voted for us in the first round of the competition, and to especially thank our customers for their continuous support.”

Pat Glennon, Glennon Brothers added: “This achievement is testament to the hard work and flexibility of our dedicated team, who have sourced new export markets as traditional markets collapsed. The success of our export strategy, means that two thirds of output from the Irish operation is exported. As we strive to continue to develop our business, it is essential that we have continuity of raw material supply. Glennon Brothers is very concerned about the impact of the proposed sale of Coillte’s harvesting rights, as they supply over 80% of the logs to the sawmills in the Republic of Ireland”.

Glennon Brothers must now go forward, to present their business case in front of a panel of expert judges in Dusseldorf Germany at the end of February. The overall winner will be announced in April 2013.
